Though Tolle has been receiving a great deal of press, he is not saying something new. Now what does the 'Power of Now' and the pain body have to do with the Awakened Mind? There are several different levels to this answer so I may cover them in different articles. Today I just want to discuss the 'pain body' idea. This is what I have referred to as the unconscious 'stuff' we don't want to deal with, or even be aware of. Also known as the 'shadow' in Jungian psychology or as the denied or unincorporated 'parts' in psychologies that do parts work, like NLP, family systems, or even Genpo Roshi's Big Mind process. In EFT it is the 'writing on the walls'. So why is it important to deal with this pain body or shadow. Quite simply because the shadow pulls us out of presence. It pulls us into past memories and events as if they were happening right now, or impels us into anxieties about the future, instantly dragging our awareness with it. This occurs often when we first begin to meditate. Sitting quietly allows all these past issues to rise to the surface. We become distracted, loose any sense of 'presence', even panicked, about the things that can arise in these moments. If you have at least read through the free lessons given on our web site, you are familiar with alpha brain waves and how we have repeated the importances of alpha in bridging to theta. The central point here is that alpha arises when we sensualize, that is when we use all of our senses to create an image in our minds eye. Recently we had Gwyneth Moss, and EFT Master from the UK, staying with us in the US. She has taken our Awakened Mind workshop and had her brain waves read, as well as seen the changes that can take place during an EFT session in her clients. (All of this will be available when our dvd's are ready.) As she was working with some clients here in the US she made the brilliant connection between the ''Movie Technique used in EFT and the alpha brain waves. In order to be in the moment with the 'pain body' one must sensualize, that is create a short ' mind movie' of the event one wishes to work with. This of course creates alpha and connects one with the specific 'theta' emotional content, or memory. Now one can use EFT to discharge the negative emotional content and re-integrate the disowned shadow. This is a very powerful and rapid technique which I believe surpasses most other forms of shadow work in efficacy.
